Mangayar Malar
Greetings from all of us at the KALKI Group of Publications, Chennai.
KALKI is our flagship magazine and was started in 1941 by two young fire
brand idealists Kalki Krishnamoorthy and Kalki
Sadasivam to champion the Freedom Movement in India. The founders along
with internationally renowned Carnatic Vocalist Bharat Ratna
Smt.M.S.Subbulakshmi, later nurtured the magazine into an organ for the
betterment of India’s social and cultural life.
40 years later was born out of the same group, Mangayar Malar, a magazine
exclusive for women. February 1981 thus became yet another land mark in the
history of the Kalki Group. Since then, Mangayar Malar has been nurtured by its
several lakhs of readers.
Mangayar Malar, the trend setter, was also the pioneer in creating a special
niche for women in the publication industry. Instrumental in heralding the
movement of women’s empowerment, Mangayar Malar has, since its inception, been a
sounding board to its readers - today men and women alike! It has served as a
platform for promoting entertainment with value and hence, is held in high
esteem by every reader. In a nutshell, it acts as a source of energy and
inspiration.
What made Mangayar Malar such a successful and powerful medium? The secret of
its success undoubtedly rests with its readers.
Behind every step towards victory there is a woman……
….. Ahead of every successful woman is Mangayar Malar.
The trust that our readers have for Mangayar Malar is our boon. We live up to
that trust without compromise.
Mangayar Malar has entered its 28th year. It has seen two generations. Bound
volumes are seen, safely, neatly stacked away in the shelves of several thousand
households.
The Mangayar Malar team is today taking healthy, positive steps towards
reaching out to young college students of Tamilnadu, through its
inter-collegiate events.
What gives us tremendous joy is the fact that the Mangayar
Malar family extends beyond Chennai, beyond Tamilnadu and beyond India. We have
readers who write to us from all over the world and we live as one large
well-knit family. We have watched and witnessed the Anbu Vattam of Mangayar
Malar readers widen day by day, hour by hour.
Several opportunities have come our way to conduct programmes and events for
our readers across Tamilnadu and India. Tamil Sangam of Bangalore, Mumbai and
Delhi have hosted programmes for Mangayar Malar. This visit of Mangayar Malar to
Muscat is the first venture outside of India and we are fortunate indeed that
the invitation has come from Tamil Sangam.
To add colour to the event and to throw light on medical and educational
fields, we have Dr.Karthik
Gunasekaran, Director, GAURI (Guna Associates in Urogynecology &
Research for Incontinence) and
Dr.K.Meena, Principal / Director, Srimathi Indra Gandhi College for
Women, Trichy, accompany the Mangayar Malar team on this proud and joyous
occasion. We are very grateful to both of them for having spared their time for
Mangayar Malar and the people of Muscat.
Mangayar Malar has a lot of experience in conducting events and competitions
and we have always been professional about the same. We hope this event too will
be as successful, and serve as a stepping stone for us to hold several more such
colourful events across the world.
Our heart-felt thanks to Tamil Sangam, participants of the contests, each and
every Mangayar Malar reader and other members of the Tamil Community.
